I am so saddened to hear of Joanie’s death. Her memory is a tremendous blessing! She was such a fixture at New Covenant/Jubilee for so many years before moving to Port Richey. I benefitted from her encouragement, boisterous laugh, love of the word of God, and exuberant hugs and have such found memories that I hold dear. I can still hear her voice and will cherish her memory.. Johnny, you will be in my prayers in the days and weeks to come.

My Aunt Joanie was one of my favorite people! I was so honored to be loved by her and Uncle John. Growing up, I loved spending time with them but my favorite memories of Aunt Joanie is how she adored my husband and kids. We spent time with Uncle John and Aunt Joanie in Florida as well as in Albany, NY. I always looked forward to her random calls almost every other week, just to check in on me and encourage my Nursing School journey. Aunt Joanie was more than just a family friend, I truly considered her my family and for a young black woman growing up in Boston.

I met Joanie in 1965 when the world was a fantastic place to be..whether we, as teenagers, were playing records, "drag racing" in our gorgeous cars up Central Avenue, having parties, or planning for a world of possibilities and a bright future which seemed inevitable. It was an exciting time to be young. Our friendship survived all of these years. She was a steadfast friend in every respect, a person of quality and integrity. It was my privilege to know her and consider her my friend. See you up the road, Joanie. I know I will.

We mourn the loss of Joan and pray for my brother, John who loved her so much. We will miss her but know she is in God's hands and in a better place.
