Obituary of Joan M. Campetelle

Port Richey, FL- Joan “Joanie” Campetelle, 76, of Port Richey, FL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 8, 2024, with her husband John by her side.

Joan was born on November 7, 1947, youngest daughter to the late Alfred Kelly and Rose (Woods) Kelly of Rensselaer, NY.  She was the beloved wife of John James Campetelle. Joan graduated from Van Rensselaer High in 1964, studied at Russell Sage College in Albany as well as Heritage of Faith Bible College in Hudson Florida.

In 1962, Joan met John at a Home Dance Party in Rensselaer. Joan and John married on August 30, 1969, and have lived a full joyful life for 54 years. The greatest joy of their lives was when they gave their lives to Jesus and began serving him together in church. 

After graduating, Joan started her career as an Administrative Assistant for several large corporations throughout the Greater Boston area including Carney Hospital and Jubilee. In 1996, John and Joan moved to better weather in Port Richey, Florida, where they began serving at Light of the World Tabernacle in Port Richey. Joan loved her church family and would regularly attend the ladies Home Journey women’s group and would host from time to time.  Joan’s life was an example of God’s love and compassion, sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen, she was not bashful. 

Joan and John enjoyed many activities together including traveling, music, attending conferences and playing word games.  Joan loved ministering to others by John’s side, it was what she enjoyed most, speaking into the lives of others.

Joan was predeceased by brothers, Patrick, Robert & Michael, as well as by nephews Shawn Kelly & Earle Kelly. Joan is survived by sister MaryAnn McCormick and sister-in-law Sheila Kelly (wife of Robert Kelly). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will miss her laughter and delicious cooking.

Services will be held at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. Calling hours will be held January 19th, from 4-6pm with a Memorial Service at 6pm.

Final Respects will be offered on January 20th, at 10am at the funeral home.
