Obituary of Eileen P. Judd

Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

North Greenbush-Judd, Eileen P.  passed away on February 5, 2024 at the age 83.  She was born in Albany, and lived in North Greenbush for over 50 years. She was the daughter of late Michael Petersen and Dorothy Novotny Petersen.

Loving wife of 51 years to the late Walter J. Judd Jr.; beloved mother of Susan Marie (Daron) Sandberg, Michael Walter (Mary) Judd and the late Paul Judd; cherished grandmother of Michael E. and Andrew C. Pestana; mother-in-law of Judith Schaub; sister of Michael Petersen.  Also survived her nephew, Michael Petersen and his family.

Eileen was a proud graduate of College of St. Rose and had many accomplishments during her life, but her crowning achievement was her teaching career at Shaker High School.  She loved sharing knowledge with her students and relating to them on a personal level. She genuinely loved all her students. Eileen would beam with happiness when her former students would recognize her in public and share how she had positively impacted their lives.  She would always say that she had been rewarded and blessed by having such a fulfilling career.

After retiring, Eileen enjoyed traveling, cooking and food, shopping, reading and having lunch with her many amazing friends.  Eileen was an active member of both the Red Hat Society and the Black Hat Divas. She maintained a very active social life.  She loved exercise and was a long-time member of Curves for Women and enjoyed both the workout and the strong friendships she developed at the gym.  She walked miles every day with bags of apples and carrots to farms near where she lived to feed her other love, animals. With the exception of snakes, she would run to kiss any animal on the nose. She loved her own dogs and rabbit as well as her grand fur babies.

Another spark of joy in Eileen’s life was her grandsons, Michael and Andy, who she adored.  She so looked forward to their visits and calls and was so proud of them and the men they had become. She was very close to and deeply loved her wonderfully supportive brother, Michael aka ‘Butch’.  Family and friends were very important to her and she loved and cherished all of them.

Eileen had a very generous heart and jumped to help anyone who needed assistance.  She made people laugh with her straightforward, candid sense of humor.  Eileen will be greatly missed to all who knew and loved her.

Thank you to the staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for the tremendous care and love they provided to Eileen.

Eileen will be interred along with her husband, Walter, at Saratoga National Cemetery. Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. A mass will be said at Saint Michael the Archangel, 175 Williams Road, Troy,  on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 12:10pm.

Anyone who knew Eileen also knew that she thought flowers were a waste.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Eileen's memeory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakwood Avenue, Menands, NY, 12204.
