Obituary of Charles J. Filkins

Hampton Manor, Rensselaer – Charles J. Filkins, age 79, passed away on Saturday January 20, 2024, after succumbing to illness.

He was born on February 26, 1944, and was the oldest son of the late James and Marie (Bielawa) Filkins of Troy, New York.

Charles grew up in Troy, NY and went to Troy High School, followed by Hudson Valley Community College.  He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a devoted husband and father who put the needs of others ahead of his own.

Charles enjoyed family vacations and spent his early retirement years camping in the Adirondack Mountains. He loved to spend time with his family.

Charles leaves behind his beloved only daughter, Patricia Colleen (Pribis). In addition, he leaves behind his siblings Linda Oliksowicz (Filkins), Gloria Clum (Filkins), Betty Ann Clum (Filkins), John Filkins, James Filkins, and Jane Gazelone (Filkins).

Charles was married to Joan Ann Filkins (Dominski) for 53 years until her passing.

The family would like to thank all of the aides and physicians that cared for Charles over the years as well as the staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their extraordinary care and kindness in his last days of life.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday January 23, 2024, to the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, from 4-6 PM. A funeral home service will be held the following day at 9:30am.  Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
