As an example of Joan’s quick thinking and humor, when some of her days were shaped by confusion and disorientation, on a recent call with Joan, I was explaining I had purchased a niche in a newly constructed Columbarium at St. Francis Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC. Aunt Joan asked, “Aren’t you going to be buried with the family?.” My response was “ I think God will find me here in NC.” She said without hesitation or a moments consideration, “ maybe you should take a compass in case He can’t find you, and you need to find Him.”
