Rotterdam – James N. Cant, 68, of Rotterdam, passed away August 22, 2023, after a brief illness with cancer. Jim was the son of the late Barbara Dunn Cant and Henry Cant. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Driscoll) Cant, his beloved sister, Marcia Hanke (Roger) and his brother, Roger Cant as well as his nieces, Kayla Castellano (Michael) and Kerra Hanke and great nephew Nicholas Castellano. He is also survived by his brother-in-law William F. Driscoll Jr., nephews-in-law W. James Driscoll and Thomas R. Driscoll and their children Dylan, Ethan, Lincoln, Elliot and Austin and dear friends Amanda Bouchard and Mark Zwinak.

James graduated from Dartmouth College and taught mathematics for many years. Subsequently he worked for the New York State Workers Compensation Board.

Jim was an optimistic, caring, kind and loving person. He was also fiercely competitive in games and sports. He also enjoyed to read and loved animals. He is survived by two cats, Mittzy and The Count.

The family wishes to thank all of Jim’s caregivers at New York Oncology-Hematology, Schenectady Pulmonary Associates, the Oncology Radiation Department at AMC, Ellis Hospital, Albany Medical Center and Schenectady Center for their excellent and compassionate care. You truly are our heroes.

The family will schedule services at a later date. If anyone wishes to memorialize Jim by a contribution, please donate to your local animal shelter in his name.
