Obituary of Daniel F. Hannon, III

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Daniel F. Hannon III, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 76.

Dan was born on Oct. 13, 1946 in Albany, NY to Daniel and Mary Hannon. Dan was a longtime resident of Rensselaer, NY. He attended Rensselaer schools & HVCC. Dan retired from NYS Comptroller’s office and worked for Lia Auto Group until his passing. He raised his daughter, Alexandra LaTourrette-Hannon, two granddaughters and was a father figure to Cherish Holmes.

Dan poured his heart and soul into the Ft. Crailo American Legion Yankee Doodle Band.  He was a faithful musician and business manager for over 60 years.  He was also an SAL and Albany Musicians Union member.  He loved marching in parades, spending time with his family, going to camp and relaxing on the boat.  Dan was best known for his storytelling, sense of humor and quick wit.  He loved to make everyone laugh and smile.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dan, and his mother, Mary. He is survived by his two daughters Alexandra and Danielle Hannon, his son Daniel Hannon IV, his two grandchildren, Tattiana & Ariana, his sisters Patricia Simmons & Kathleen Mitchem, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The wake will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at W.J. Lyons Jr Funeral Home at 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer from 3-5:30 pm followed by the funeral service at 5:30pm.
