Obituary of Lois C. Mitchell

Lois Carolyn Reed Mitchell, the wife of the late Harold E. Mitchell, passed away peacefully on July 5th 2022 at the age of 96.  She was the daughter of the late Frances H. Southwell and John H. Reed.  Lois and her husband started and actively participated in the Albany Chapter of the Compassionate Friends after the death of their daughter Elaine.  The chapter is named the Harold E. Mitchell chapter.  Lois also was a member of the Pythian Sisters – Joan of Arc Temple.  Lois worked for the New York Telephone Company after graduating from Rensselaer High School.  Many remember her from working in the cafeteria at the Van Rensselaer School.  

Lois was predeceased by her daughter Elaine in 1976, grandson Brian in 2003, her sister Helena Bentley in 1994 and her sister Mildred Fox in 2022.  Lois is survived by her two sons David J. Mitchell (Christine L. Yesse) and Paul E. Mitchell.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aimee Mitchell, Andrea Davis (Justin Davis), Danielle Mitchell, Liesel Welsch (Dan Welsch) and Peter Mitchell.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.  In lieu of flowers, a Love Gift can be made in her name to the Harold E. Mitchell Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, to the attention of Debbie Bouchey, 26 Berkshire Dr, East Greenbush, NY 12061 or the charity of your choice.
