East Greenbush- John F. Groark age 79 of East Greenbush passed away peacefully Sunday, July 18, 2021 at home. John was born in Albany and was son of the late Francis and Margaret Garrity Groark. John was employed as a civil engineer by the New York State Department of Transportation Bridge Office for many years until his retirement. Thereafter, he continued to work as an engineer at Greenman-Pederson and the NYS Emergency Management Office. He was an avid wood worker, gardener, and photographer. John was a member of the Yankee Doodle Band, the Rensselaer Lodge of Elks, as well as the Hendrick Hudson and Nassau Sportsmen’s Clubs. Husband of the late Susan Campbell Groark. Father of James Groark and Eileen (Jeff) Hayes. Grandfather of Ethan, Christopher and Rory Hayes and Emma, Sarah and John Groark. Brother of the late James J. Groark. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush. All are welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held Wednesday at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer from 4-7 PM. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Yankee Doodle Band, 20 Partition Street, Rensselaer, NY 12144 or the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1359 Broadway Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
