Obituary of Daniel James Dwyer

Rensselaer – Daniel J. Dwyer, 84, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

          Dan was a graduate of St. John’s Academy class of 52’ and St. Michael’s College class of 57’. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as an officer aviator. After his Air Force service he worked as a pilot for Pan America World Airways and Atlas Air. Dan flew many types of aircraft, but loved flying the 747. For the last 13 years, at the time of his passing Dan served as mayor of his beloved City of Rensselaer, dedicating countless hours to his community. He was a member of the Gerald O’Neil American Legion Post 1683.

          Dan was predeceased by his loving wife Kathleen; his parents Daniel and Isabell; his siblings Robert, John and Dorothy. His survived by his children Colleen and Daniel supported by their loving family especially their 5 children. Dan loved his many nieces and nephews and cherished his many friends.

          Colleen and Dan would like the thank all their father’s nurses at Albany Medical Center (especially Emily) and the outstanding staff at Sunnyview Rehabilitation.

          Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, Monday, November 26, 2018 at 9am and 10am at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick St., Rensselaer where the Funeral Mass will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, Sunday from 3-8pm. Interment will follow the mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

          Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a scholarship fund in memory of Dan to the Rensselaer City School District, 25 Van Rensselaer Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144
