Obituary of Marjorie T. Finn

Rensselaer-Marjorie Teresa (Vogl) Finn passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a brief illness. Marjorie was one week short of her 92nd birthday, She was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident of Rensselaer. Marjorie attended St. John's Academy in Rensselaer, graduating as the Salutatorian of her class in 1943, where she earned a varsity letter for basketball. After graduation, she attended Pius X School of Music in NYC and later, HVCC. Prior to, and shortly after her marriage, she was employed by Caterpillar Tractor. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer. Her true passion was for music, playing the organ and piano, and being the music teacher and choir director for St. Joseph's Church in Rensselaer. She retired from that position in 1985. Other local churches often requested her music for weddings and funerals and her "route" included 26 different organs. Marjorie's hobbies and interests included camping, swimming, cross country skiing, traveling and most particularly sewing, at which she excelled. She was extremely proud of her 50-year service pin from the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor. She also volunteered as a Telephone Pioneer Partner. Daughter of the late Norbert G. and Eva K. Noll Vogl. Wife of 68 years until his passing in February 2016, Thomas F. Finn, Jr. Devoted mother of Kathleen (Ernest) Popp and Thomas (Marilyn) Finn, III. Loving grandmother of Margaret (James) Hatch, Ernest (Melissa) Popp, Jr., Elizabeth (Dana) Finn, Matthew Popp, Thomas F. (Crystal) Finn, IV and Katherine (Thomas) Myers. Proud Great-grandmother of Christopher, Natalie, Mason, Kaylee, James, Connor, Colleen, TJ, Claire, Hailey, Molly, Kendall and Taylor. Sister of Norbert G. (Joan) Vogl, Jr. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and their families. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM and 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the funeral mass will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call to the funeral home Monday from 4-7PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. The family would especially like to thank Riverside Nursing Home in Castleton for their patience and loving care shown to our mother over the years.
