Obituary of Richard A. Dorman

Richard Alan Dorman, 76, of North Greenbush, passed away at Albany Medical Center surrounded by family on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. "Dick" as he was affectionately known, was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Helen Dorman. Dick was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, the son of late Carl Dorman and Emily Meadows. He resided in the West Sand Lake/Wynantskill area for 48 years. Dick was a graduate of Boonton High School in NJ and the University of Arizona. After high school Dick completed a tour of duty with the US Air Force which set him on the path to his career as an Electrical Engineer and future employment with MTI, Mechanical Technology, Inc., which he retired from in 2005. During his tenure at MTI, Dick's accomplishments were many. He was a brilliant Electrical Engineer who held over 300 patents for plethora of innovative sensors and measurement technology. Dick was the most upbeat and optimistic man and his outgoing nature was a comfort to those around him. He always approached life with wit, humor and a new story to tell. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and motorcycle rides with Helen and caring for their grandson, Tucker. As an active member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish & Game Club, he was an avid shooter and took responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the Rifle Range. Dick is survived by siblings, June Meola, Nancy Regec, Marilyn Pompeo, Bob Dorman and Bill Dorman; two children, Andrew Dorman , Jennifer Whitbeck (Dorman); grandson Tucker Whitbeck; special friend Bonnie Collins; many nieces and nephews, and numerous relatives, friends and coworkers who cared deeply about Dick. Dick will forever be a part of the lives of the people he came in contact with as we cherish memories of this kind, positive and amazingly smart man who made the world a better place. Relatives and friends will be invited to attend a celebration of his life at a time and location to be determined.
