Obituary of W. Edward Ehmann

N. Greenbush - W. Edward Ehmann, age 96, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Medina, NY to the late William and Norma Snyder Ehmann. Ed leaves his wife of 74 years, Jeanne Stettner Ehmann of Alfred, NY and four children: Rik Ehmann (Beverly Ihinger) of Louisville, KY, Christine Ehmann (Glenn Zweygardt) of Alfred, NY, Thomas (Donna) Ehmann of E. Greenbush and Constance Ehmann Pennisi of Alfred, NY., 9 grandchildren (Sasha, Sky, Jasmine, Akio, Annie, Trevor, Danica, Licia and Mae), 11 great-grandchildren and 2 nieces, Abigail Ehmann and Martha Ehmann Conte. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Joan Ehmann of San Rafael, CA. Ed grew up in Corfu, NY and graduated with a degree in Business from Hobart College. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Ed served during WWII as a Captain in the Marines and was stationed in the South Pacific. After the war, he and Jeanne lived in Texas for a time before moving back to Upstate NY where he was employed by Grand Union Supermarkets, eventually becoming Director of Personnel for the Empire Division. After retirement, he and Jeanne lived at Schroon Lake, NY and wintered in Chandler, AZ. Ed loved to read, drive, travel and visit with his friends. He especially enjoyed his time spent at Schroon Lake smoking a cigar on the back deck. Calling hours will be from 3 - 6 pm Sunday, Dec. 4th at the W.J.Lyons Jr Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. A service will be held immediately following calling hours at the funeral home. Interment will be Monday, December 5th at 2PM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you say a prayer in remembrance of Ed.
