Obituary of Dominic F. Mastrototaro

North Greenbush-Dominic F. Mastrototaro, 77, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at St. Peter's Hospital. Dominic was born on January 28, 1939, in Brooklyn the son of Michael and Mary Mastrototaro. Dominic attended Catholic Elementary School in Brooklyn and later attended Boys High School, graduating in June, 1958. Dominic served in the U.S. Army from February 26, 1959 until February 13, 1961. Dominic worked for MetLife for over 40 years, working in Manhattan for 25 years until relocating to the Rensselaer Park in East Greenbush, where he continued his career with MetLife. He retired in 1999 as a shift manager. After being together for 15 years, Dominic married Gail Pierce on August 14, 1984, in St. Michael's Church in Troy. They lived in Troy and enjoyed spending their winters in their winter home in Ormond Beach, Fla. Dominic was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a lifelong diehard New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed going to baseball games and assisting in coaching his son's little league team. Dominic was also a fan of the theatre, and enjoyed going to plays with his wife. He further enjoyed going out to dinner and was a "BIG movie buff." He also was an avid tennis player. Dominic was very proud of his two grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda, and was looking forward to being a part of his granddaughters wedding on June 10, 2017. He was an active member of St. Michael's Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, and member of their Men's Club. He was also an active member of the American Italian Heritage Club. He lived an active life style and filled his days with going to the gym, restaurants, and socializing with friends over coffee at Starbucks. Dominic even looked forward to Tuesdays, where his son, Michael would spend the day with him, going to the gym, to the movies and out to dinner. Dominic most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his son, Michael Mastrototaro of Oneonta; daughter, Donna (Jeff) Toombs of Oneonta; grandchildren, Daniel Toombs of Oneonta, Amanda Toombs (fiancé Kurt Richter) of Davenport, N.Y.; brothers, Benny Mastrototaro of Castleton, Angelo (Regina) Mastrototaro of Flushing; sisters, Stella Boyle of Ridge, N.Y., and Mina (Artie) Tremblay of Ridge; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Gail; parents; mother-in-law, Vera Fisher; sister-in-law, Nancy Mastrototaro; and brother-in-law, Joseph Boyle. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, November 28, from 4-7 p.m. in the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy. Burial will be held in the spring in the columbarium of the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Castleton, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
