Rensselaer-Richard Kappes Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning, June 13th 2016 in his family home in Rensselaer, NY. Born in Albany, NY to parents Beatrice and Karl Kappes, he resided in the Capital Region his entire life. Richard was a loyal employee of Grand Union for many years until his retirement. He was proud to be a Freemason and lived his life as an honest, upright man. Richard was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team and an animal lover. He will be missed by his children Heidi Hoffman and Richard Kappes Jr.; his grandchildren: Samantha, Julia, and Daniel Hoffman; his siblings: Edward, Keith, Donald, William, Sharon, Helen, and Robert; as well as his former spouse Elizabeth Kappes and the rest of his friends and family. Richard was predeceased by his brothers Karl and Dennis, and his sisters Beverly and Beatrice. Funeral service will be held at W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, NY, on Monday June 20th at 7pm. Calling hours will be from 4pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's memory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
