Obituary of Guido J. Gabriel, Sr.

Troy-Guido J. “Giggy” Gabriel, Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1929 to the late Frederick V. and Pasqualena (Paisano) Gabriel, in Troy.

Guido attended St. Lawrence School and was a graduate of Troy High School.  He was a businessman and owned Gabriel’s White House Pizza, Pawling Ave. Liquor Store in Troy while working for the Ford Motor Company on Green Island for over 43 years.

He was a family man who adored his family, his children were his pride and joy. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Guido is survived by his beloved children, Guido J. (Kate) Gabriel, Jr., James (Tammy) Gabriel, Patricia Gabriel Adee, Kathleen (the late Daniel) Rivet, Regina (Eric) Kniele, and Valerie (Michael Kolakovic) Gabriel. He is also survived by his brother Frederick (Joan) Gabriel of Cape Cod, MA, and his adored 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Guido is predeceased and will be reunited with his wife, Shirley T. (Soucey), his children Michael Gabriel and Tina Gabriel Johnson, his brothers, Alfred, Anthony and Joseph Gabriel and his sisters Angeline Macutek, Maryann Assini and Ruth Connors, as well as his grandchildren, Jamie Combs and Kailyn Gabriel.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call to the W.J. Lyons Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer on Sunday April 21, 2024 from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 from the funeral home at 9:30am and 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, 416 Third Street, Troy. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga, NY 12866.
