Obituary of Thomas J. Horan

Schodack - Thomas J. Horan, 68, died peacefully on Thursday, Christmas Eve in the loving embrace of his wife and son after a courageous battle with Cancer at Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Tom was born in Albany, NY. He is the son of the late Elizabeth and Daniel Horan. Tom graduated from Vincentian Institute, Class of 1965. He attended the Albany College of Pharmacy. Tom retired from the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services after over 37 years of dedicated service, working as an Identification Specialist II. Tom has resided in Schodack for the last 35 years. He was a Lifetime member of the Rensselaer Elks B.P.O.E. #2073 and a devoted volunteer of CoNSERNS-U and Circles of Mercy, both in Rensselaer. Tom was a communicant of Church of the Holy Spirit in East Greenbush where he also volunteered in many capacities. Tom always enjoyed playing cards, shooting darts with his friends at the Elks and enjoyed a good round of golf especially the Sleasman Family "Junie" Open. Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years Rosemary Sleasman Horan; father of, Jason (Courtney) Horan, whom he was so proud of; and Papa "T" to his little buddy Lucas Robert Horan. He is the brother of Patrick (Joan) Horan, Kathleen Swiantek and Mary Ellen (the late John) Albert. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many dear friends. Tom was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents Patrick and Catherine Martin, his Paternal Grandparents Patrick and Anna Horan, his brothers-in-law John Albert and Joseph Maddalena and his cousin John Ringwood. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to St. Peter's Hospital 5 McAuley and Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing for the excellent care and compassion shown to Tom and his family throughout his illness. Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave. Rensselaer on Thursday December 31st at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, East Greenbush. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 30th.
