Obituary of Joseph P. Carney

Rensselaer – Joseph P. Carney, 52, died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Community Hospice in St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

          Joe was born in Albany, and was a lifelong resident of Rensselaer and the son of Thomas and Gail (LaPorta) Carney.

          Joe began his career in law enforcement as an Albany County Corrections Officer followed by a Sheriff’s Deputy with Albany County and finally as a Sgt. with the Rensselaer Police Department. He was an avid outdoorsmen and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his beloved sons.

          In additions to his parents. Joe is survived by his sons, Gavin and Hayden Carney; his brothers Patrick (Lisa) and Thomas (Cathy) Carney; his cherished godchild Juliana and several nieces and nephews.

          Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 9:30am in the W. J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4 to 7pm. Interment will be in New Rural Cemetery, East Greenbush.
