Burden Lake- It is with heavy hearts that the family of William J. "Will" Schiermeyer announces his passing on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the age of 71, at his home on Burden Lake after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born on March 2, 1954, in Albany, NY, Will was the son of the late Joan (Seils) and William Schiermeyer. A graduate of Averill Park High School and Hudson Valley Community College, Will went on to enjoy a varied and fulfilling career. He worked at various car dealerships in Lackawanna, NY, before transitioning to a position as head mechanic at Freihofer Baking Company. His skills and dedication to his work were evident throughout his career.
Will was an active member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club and proudly served as the Chief of the Hoags Corners Fire Department from 1987 to 1992. He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life-fishing, building with Legos, reading, and spending quality time with family. His love for his grandkids and his presence at their sporting events were among the greatest joys of his life.
Will was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Anne Schiermeyer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Kaznowski) Schiermeyer, who was the love of his life. Will was a proud father to Jeremy (Shannon Rebecca Murphy, friend), John (Courtney), and Joseph (Lauren) Schiermeyer. He was the adoring Grandpa of Reid and Mason and a cherished Papa to Grier, Kensington, Emmy, and Liam. Will is also survived by his sister, Julianne (Philip) Liebener; his brother-in-law Clifford Kaznowski; sister-in-law Pamela Kaznowski; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice for their unwavering care and support during Will's final days. Their compassion has meant the world to Will and his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Will's honor at 11:00am on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Henry's Church, 39 Old Route 66, Averill Park, NY. Interment will follow immediately at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 3rd Ave. Ext., Rensselaer, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Will's memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090, or to the Hoags Corners Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 90, East Nassau, NY 12062.
