William Hughes

Colonie- William A. Hughes, III age 76 of Colonie passed away on Monday Nov. 2, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Albany to William A. Hughes, II and Mildred Hamlin on February 2, 1939 and lived and raised his family in North Greenbush before retiring in Colonie. Mr Hughes was a graduate of HVCC and was employed as an Electrical Technician for GAF and BASF both in Rensselaer for 38 years. Bill served in the National Guard and was a member of the Empire State Capital Volkssports and the Rensselaer Council #267 K of C. He was very active for Concerns-U, Habitat for Humanity and volunteered at local food pantries. His interest included traveling, golf and bowling. Bill was kind, caring selfless, generous with his time and most of all devotion to his family and beloved grandchildren. Husband of Dianne M. Lacivita Hughes whom he married on October 7, 1967 at St. Joseph's Church in Rensselaer where he attended while living in North Greenbush. Father of Greg (Michelle) Hughes, Karen Hughes-Sessions and Teresa (Brad) Giles. Brother of Timothy (Claudia) Hughes, Gerald (Dorothy) Hughes and Janice (the late Ron) Labouchere. Grandfather of Gavin Sessions, Tyler Giles, Sophie Hughes and Liam Hughes. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Friday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. Michael the Arch Angel Church Williams Road North Greenbush where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery East Greenbush. The family would like to thank all the staff at Albany Medical Center for the excellent and compassionate care he received for over 3 years he was cared for, Dialysis unit for their outstanding care, the Colonie Senior Transportation Service for their loving care in their transportation back and forth from Dialysis and DCI for their respect and understanding.
