East Greenbush- Sylvia Garrison, 102, of East Greenbush passed away serenely on Saturday June 12, 2021 of natural causes. The daughter of Felix and Roseanna (Prater) Allen, she grew up in the hills of Eastern Kentucky but moved to New York as a young woman after marrying Ralph A. Garrison Jr. of the Albany area. They shared 67 happy years until Ralph died at age 100. An astonishing gift of longevity and good health. A woman of deep faith, Sylvia lived a loving and giving life, sustained first and foremost by family. She remained an avid baker and quilter until the last days of her life. And Sundays – everything stopped while she immersed herself in the New York Times Spelling Bee puzzle, often spelling her way to “genius” level far ahead of everyone else in the family. In addition to Ralph, Sylvia was predeceased by six siblings and granddaughter Daphne Malone. She is survived by daughters Janet (Frank) O’Donnell of Avon Lake, OH; Laura Garrison of West Sand Lake; and Carolyn Garrison (Fred LeBrun) of West Sand Lake. Sylvia was grandmother of Andrew O’Donnell of Avon Lake, OH; David (Christie) Malone of Duanesburg; Thomas (Lisa) Malone Jr. of Avon, CT; Erin Oliver of Troy; and Jessica (Henry) Woodbury of Sharon, MA. Sylvia was also great-grandmother of Emily, Kevin and Matthew Malone; Brian and Rachel Malone; and Elijah, Sylvia and Giacomo Woodbury. She is survived by sister-in-law Edith Allen and brother-in-law Claude Justice. The Garrison family would like to thank Eddy Heritage House and Community Hospice staff for their exceptional care of Sylvia in her last days. At Sylvia’s request, funeral services will be private, for immediate family. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack.
