Shirley Thompson

Rensselaer- Shirley A. Thompson, age 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 13, 2024. She was a native and longtime resident of Rensselaer, born to the late Alexander J. Sr., and Anna (Luke) Seney in 1930.

Shirley loved her family dearly. She enjoyed gardening, decorating her home, and listening to music of any kind. She also loved dancing, especially a waltz with the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Jack. She devoted her life to her four children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to managing a busy household, she volunteered at the Franciscan Mission House in Rensselaer for five years.

Shirley is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, John F. Thompson, Jr. (Marjorie); Mary C. Minissale (Ted); and Paul W. Thompson; beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Starr (Keith); Lisa Portanova (Greg); Megan Kiel (Eric); John P. Thompson (Jackie); Adam Mancini (Kayla); Scott Mancini (Claire); and Kari Minissale, and her brother, Alexander J. Seney, Jr.

Along with her parents Shirley is predeceased by her husband John F. Thompson, Sr. and their daughter, Barbara A. Mancini (survives, Thomas), as well as, her brothers, Charles Seney and Robert Seney.

Funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family at church, prior to mass, beginning at 9:30am. Burial to follow at New Rural Cemetery.
