Sherrie Ann Rice

April 20, 1965 — July 13, 2021

Sherrie Ann Rice, 56, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2021. Born on April 20, 1965, in Clinton, Massachusetts, Sherrie was a selfless, kind, and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend who was taken from her loved ones far too soon. After obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Travel & Tourism from Paul Smith’s College, Sherrie spent several years working as a front desk clerk for the Days Inn. She then joined Chartwell’s as a school lunchroom cashier in Castleton, New York, where she lived for most of her adult life. Sherrie loved serving the students at Castleton Elementary, often referring to them as “her kids.” They, in turn, fondly knew as her “Miss Sherrie.” Sherrie was a unique and caring soul, full of love for everyone around her. She was best known for her big heart, her passion for animal rescue (especially dachshunds), her colorful and quirky wardrobe, and her devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mary Lynde, and her brother-in-law, Joseph Rice, Sherrie is survived by her stepmother, Susan Lynde; her husband of 33 years, Francis J. Rice III; her son, Francis J. Rice IV (Kristin Stornelli); her three siblings, Christina Miller (David), Todd Lynde (Lauri), and Patrick Lynde; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Scofield (Gerald); and her two brothers-in-law, Michael Rice and William Rice (Carolann). She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, David Miller Jr. (Lauren), Eric Miller (April), Kylien Lynde, Jacquelyn Lynde, Ashlee Scofield, William Rice (Renee), April Rice, Lisa Rice, and Michael Rice; as well as two great-nephews and one great-niece. Sherrie is also survived by her two beloved fur babies, Pippa and Ralphie. Calling hours will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday July 16, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Both calling hours and service will take place at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home at 1700 Washington Ave in Rensselaer, New York. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, or donations may be made in Sherrie’s name to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter at 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
