Rensselaer- Rose A. Smith, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on, December 18, 2023. She was born in 1930, in Albany, to the late Carmine and Caterina (Baggetta) Filippini.
Rose was a graduate of the Phillip Schuyler School. She then went on to become supervisor at Albany Med Food Service. Rose later worked for the East Greenbush School District as a food service worker and found her permanent home at Red Mill supervising their kitchen. She loved her job but mostly loved the kids, who all knew her as Rosie.
In 1960, Rose married the late, John Smith, and resided in Hampton Manor where they raised their family. She loved dancing, casinos and “exercising” with her daughter while on Zoom, but most of all, Rose, loved her family with her whole heart.
Rose is survived by her loving daughter and full-time caregiver Diane Nardacci and son-in-law Tony Nardacci, whom she resided with for the last 12 years; her sister and best friend Yolanda Filippini; her brother Frank Filippini; her most cherished granddaughters Leia Nardacci and Nina Nardacci, Harmon (Jesse); her precious great grandchildren Drea and Enzo Harmon and special nephew, Jim Smith, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Rose is predeceased by her twin daughter Darlene Smith O’Marra, and her siblings Amelia Gimondo, Dominic Filippino, Eda Filippino and Nicholas Filippini.
The family would like to thank her primary care physician, Rhonda Esposito, who took the best care of her, and Community Hospice, specifically, Heather, Maria and Lori. Also, a very special thank you to Sara Roberts Bollman for all the support and care she gave.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 4-6pm, to the W.J. Lyons Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral home service will follow at 6pm.
