Glenmont- Robert P. "Bob" Knauf, Sr., 87, went home into the arms of his heavenly father on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Robert was born and raised in Rensselaer, NY. He was the son of the late George W. Knauf, Sr. and Gertrude (Ketzer) Knauf. Brother of the late Alice Ganley, Daniel George Jr, and James Knauf. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alberta (Woods) Knauf. Proud father of his identical twin daughters Lynda (Jim) Harrington and Lorri (Dave) Berkley and son Robert P. "Bud" (Liz) Knauf, Jr. Very proud grandfather to Jessica (Marc Ammann) Harrington and Rachel (Brian) Page. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was a very proud Army veteran serving in the Engineer Scarwaf 840th Aviation Battalion during the Korean War where he was awarded two bronze medals of honor. Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and instilled on his family the love of God, the importance of faith and strongly- a good sense of humor. He proudly attended Siena College, then worked over the years as a machinist for the Watervliet Arsenal and then as a planning design specialist for the General Electric Company. The family would like to acknowledge the help, kindness and love of special nephew Harry L. Allen, Jr. The family would also like to recognize the care over many years of Dr. Frank Fera, and most recently the wonderful and loving care of the nurses and staff of St. Peter's Hospital, 3 McCauley. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Robert's memory to the St. Jude Children's' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, an organization that had great importance to our father. A mass of Christian Death and Burial will be offered Friday at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church in Rensselaer at 9:30 AM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Ave. Rensselaer Thursday from 3-6 pm. Interment will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors. Army Strong Daddio!- til later.
