Rensselaer- Robert Drzymala, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, to the profound sorrow of his family, friends and community. He was born in Nassau, to Joseph and Catherine Drzymala on October 19, 1947.
Bob graduated from Columbia High School in 1965 and enlisted in the US Navy from 1967 to 1971 where he served on the USS Kitty Hawk in Vietnam. He later was a graduate of RPI in 1976 with an engineering degree. He enjoyed a successful career specializing in environmental safety. Bob was employed at CIBRO, BASF, and ARG Resources.
Those who knew Bob were aware of his many interests and hobbies. First and foremost, the ski club was close to his heart, as he met his loving wife, Kim there.
Together they traveled and skied mountains in France, Utah and Colorado to name a few. During this time, Bob made lifelong friends with whom he shared many hours playing golf, chasing that ever illusive hole in one! Although he came up short on the hole in one, the trips to Palm Springs, Hawaii and especially Hilton Head, visiting his daughter, Beth and her husband Matt made up for it.
Along with wallyball, pool side gatherings, hosting family and friends on many occasions made Bob a happy man. One other special interest of his; he was a master gardener, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Bob's pride and joy during his life was refurbishing his 1840's house in Castleton. The historical home was a beautiful brick Victorian that hosted many social gatherings and holiday parties through the years.
Bob is survived by Kim, his wife of 31 years, his daughter Beth (Matthew) Henzler, his brother Joseph (Lorraine) Drzymala, his sister-in-law, Susan Hesseltine, his grandson Sean (Kate) Henzler and two great grandchildren.
Bob cherished his close connections with his high school classmates. He never missed a reunion and maintained many friendships throughout the last 60 years.
A memorial for Bob will be held at the W.J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 9:30-11am. Followed by a funeral home service at 11am. Interment with funeral honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, at 1pm.
