Richard Ryan

Rensselaer-Richard M. Ryan passed away Friday January 22, 2016. Born in Troy, NY on September 20, 1931he was the son of the late William and Ruth Ryan and brother of the late William and James Ryan. Mr. Ryan lived in Rensselaer most of his life and was a long time parishioner of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer. He graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy in 1949 and was a US Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. He worked for American Airlines as a customer service representative for 36 years, retiring in 1993 and was a huge NY Yankees, NY Giants and Notre Dame Fan. He was most happy spending time with his family. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years Ann, proud father of Ellen Oswald, Susan (Daniel) Shook, Julie (Alan) Bashant and Matthew (Roberta) Ryan, cherished brother-in-law of Jean O'Donnell, loving grandfather of Jennifer Geske, Kara (Alex) Witt, Mollie and Tim Shook, Ryan and Liam Bashant, Matthew and Emma Ryan. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Tuesday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral Monday from 4-7 p.m. Internment with military honors Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
