Patricia (Ames) Slavin, 62, of Averill Park passed away and entered the kingdom of heaven on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Patty was born in Troy, New York and was the daughter of late Robert H. Ames, Sr. and Patricia H. (Walsh) Warriner. She was the beloved wife of James A. Slavin of Averill Park. Patty will always be remembered for her kindness, genuineness, and compelling smile. She brought joy, laughter, and fellowship to everyone around her. Patty had a welcoming spirit and a strong passion for helping others to better understand and appreciate their unique and special gifts for the world. She hugged you when you arrived, fostered an honest and heartwarming environment, and hugged you again when you departed. So many friends, family, and others continually returned time and time again to experience Patty’s endless generosity, sincerity, and intriguing humor. Patty loved the Lord and her unwavering faithfulness remained true throughout her life. Patty embraced difficult challenges head on, as evident by her service and support for our military. She enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably from 1982-1986. As a Senior Airman and Hydraulic Systems Technician, Patty developed the necessary knowledge and skills to repair C-130 cargo aircraft, while stationed in West Germany. For the next 14 years, as a military spouse, she was an integral part of military family communities at Travis A.F.B. (CA), Sheppard A.F.B. (TX), and Tinker A.F.B. (OK). Patty especially loved interacting with children. She flourished as a kindergarten Teacher Aide for five years and as a high school Educational Aide for special education for over 14 years. She recently retired from Shaker High School in the North Colonie Central School District in Latham. Patty touched and positively influenced the lives of so many people over the years. Humanity lost a rare and precious person far too soon. She will truly be missed by so many. Patty’s most treasured roles in her life were being a mother, grandmother, and wife. In addition to her husband Jim, Patty is survived by her loving children, son Joshua J. Slavin and his wife Tara L. Slavin, son Jason A. Slavin, and daughter Jessica L. Slavin. She is also survived by her amazing grandchild, Charlotte R. Slavin. Also, Patty is survived by her brother, Robert Ames, Jr. and her three sisters Deborah Mason, Donna Cooper and her husband Guy Cooper, and Darlene Simmons and her husband Roy Simmons. Additionally, with a large extended family, Patty is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Patty cherished her supportive and loving family. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and limitations, a memorial service celebration of Patty’s beautiful life will be conducted privately by her family and close friends. Donations can be made in honor of Patty Slavin to The Food Pantries for the Capital District (www.thefoodpantries.org).
