Rensselaer- Mary G. Bissaillon, 82, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in the South End of Albany, she was the daughter of the late John Fernandez and Rose Mary (Lostritto) Fernandez.
Mary was married to her beloved husband, John Bissaillon, on March 5, 1960, in Albany. Together, they shared a loving and devoted marriage for over 64 years. Mary and John spent many years residing in Rensselaer and then retired to Ft. Myers, Florida, before returning to the Capital Region in June.
Mary worked for the New York State Department of Education, where she made lasting connections and was known for her strong work ethic. Outside of work, she found joy in a variety of hobbies, including crafting, puzzles, reading, playing games, and swimming. Her love for dogs was well-known, and she often found comfort and companionship in her pets.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children: Diana (Gary) Stevens, Catherine (Thomas) Carney, Jr., and John (Tina) Bissaillon. She was a proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was also the sister of Diane Hulett, Stephen Fernandez, and the late John and Joe Fernandez.
Mary will be remembered for her kind and caring nature, her love for her family, and her unwavering strength. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Joseph Church 416 Third Street, Troy on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to visit with Mary's family prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the New Rural Cemetery in East Greenbush.
