Troy – Mary E. Agars, 84, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Van Rensselaer Manor. Mary was born in Troy and was a longtime resident of Best Road in North Greenbush. She was the oldest daughter of Albert and Emily (Bennaway) Colarusso. Mary is survived by her loving children Carolyn (Anthony) D’Agostino, and Mark (Viara) Agars. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Scott, Sofia and Kelly D’Agostino, and Maksim and Niko Agars. Mary is also survived by her sisters Janet (Dom) Mantello and Emily Malone, sister-in law Theresa Agars, and numerous close friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband George and her parents. Mary graduated from Catholic High School in Troy, and from the College of St. Rose. She retired after many years as a math teacher in the Bethlehem Central School District. Mary was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Rensselaer, and later of St. Michael’s Parish in Troy, and a member of Empire State Capital Volkssporters. Mary loved gardening, cooking and baking, quilting, and finding interesting activities to do wherever she was. After retirement (and even before), Mary shared many travels with her love, George, often with the company of dear family and friends. Their adventures were endless, as was their love. They are together again, no doubt planning where to go next. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary’s family on Monday, January 27th from 4pm to 6pm at W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home in Rensselaer. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 28 at 10am at St. Michael the Archangel, Troy. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society. Online at https://donate.cancer.org or at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
