Martin J. Posila

Rensselaer-Martin Joseph Posila, age 85, of Rensselaer, NY, passed away on September 2, 2024. Born on November 7, 1938, in Waterbury, CT, Marty lived a full and impactful life.

He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1957 and went on to serve with distinction in the U.S. Army for 29 years, retiring as a Major. During his military career, Marty contributed to the Hubble Space Telescope project. After retiring from the Army, he transitioned to a career as a certified drug and alcohol counselor, first in Waterbury and later in Johnstown, NY. He worked with the alternative to incarceration program at Confer Park and St. Mary's Drug and Alcohol Program, dedicating himself to helping others.

Marty was a proud member of the Fiat Club America - Northeast Coast Chapter. In 2007, he married Judy Huxley, and together they embarked on cross-country adventures, with their dog Joey, beginning with Route 66. They found a special place in Florida and made it their second home. Marty had a passion for motorcycle riding and golfing, and cherished time spent watching Raiders games with his son in Las Vegas and playing cards with friends. He was deeply proud of his 40 years of sobriety through AA.

Marty is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Huxley-Posila; his son, Mark Posila (Joan), his daughters, Amanda Posila and Samanda Posila; his stepdaughter, Kierstin Lambright; his grandchildren Alex, Anthony, Gina, and Yolanda; and his great-grandchildren Gionni and Gunner, and brother of Joel (Tina) Posila. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Posila; his son, Martin Posila; and his brother Dennis Posila.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call to the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 2-3:30pm. A funeral home service will follow at 3:30pm.

Marty's legacy of service, compassion, and joy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
