Marilyn Miller

Marilyn Florence (Oxley) (Lutz) Miller East Greenbush – Marilyn Florence Miller, born August 27, 1931 in Cooperstown NY, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018 after a long and courageous battle against Alzheimer’s. Marilyn was an amazing seamstress, accomplished quilter, talented artist, and a creative crafter whose nimble fingers were never idle. She shared her talents willingly with family and friends, creating a lasting legacy of home goods and clothing items of unsurpassed quality. Known for her good humor and love of pranks, she also enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing with grandchildren. Marilyn lived and worked in the Capital region her entire life. A 1949 graduate of Van Rensselaer high school, she worked briefly at Siena College in Loudonville and for many years at Sun Oil Company at the Port of Rensselaer. She was the kitchen manager at Bowling Green Lanes in East Greenbush where she applied her creativity to menu offerings and practiced nepotism in hiring decisions. Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years Ronald John Miller of Knox, her children from her first marriage to Walter W. Lutz Jr, Dean of Houston TX, Jay of Charlotte NC, Kirby (Bonnie DeGonzague) of Colonie, Stephanie (Steven) Pohl of Atlanta GA, and Sara Chauvot (Will Shook) of wherever their travels take them, her stepsons Kevin (Patty) Miller of Knox, David (Karen) Miller of Castleton VT, and Chris Dangerfield of Phoenix AZ, her grandchildren Aimee and Zachary Chauvot, Jenna and Erich Lutz, Anna and Jonathan Pohl, Joshua and Rebecca Miller, and Alex, Nick, and Greg Dangerfield. Also survived by her sister Diana (Thomas) Allen and brother-in-law Raymond Lebrecht of Rensselaer. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Leona (Saxton) Oxley and her sister Joanne Lebrecht. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Two Schodack Square at Evergreen Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Greenbush for the care and compassion they showed during her stay there. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at noon in the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday beginning at 10am. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
