Maria Darrigo passed away peacefully at the age of 82. She was born on August 2, 1940 in the town of Cardinale, Italy. Maria is the daughter of the late Nicola and Iolanda Mugrace. Maria was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Vincent.
Maria is survived by her loving sister Rosanne, her daughters Rita Leonard (Albert), Tina Gaeta (Gino) and her grandchildren Chloe, Luke, Noah, Casey and Trevor. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Maria was predeceased by her sister Antoinette.
When Maria and her family immigrated to the USA, she worked as a seamstress in Jersey City, NJ. After moving to Rensselaer, Maria worked as a childcare provider both in her home and at Tiny Tots Daycare.
Maria was a member of the Saint Anthony Society of St. Joseph's/St. John's Church. She belonged to the Leonardo Davinci Lodge and the Order of The Sons of Italy.
Maria enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Maria traveled to several states across the country to attend Naval Ship Reunions with her husband. She especially enjoyed this when she was able to invite extended family members to join them.
Funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street Rensselaer, Wednesday Sept. 7th at 10am. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, Tuesday, Sept. 6th from 4-6pm. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
