Colonie- Linda A. Canonica, age 79, went home to the Lord, on Monday, November 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 2, 1945, to the late Matthew Heeran and Mary Alice (Hewson) Irwin and spent her childhood in Rensselaer.
She graduated high school from St. John's and obtained college credits that furthered her career with New York State. Linda was employed as a senior personnel administrator at the NYS Dept of Public Service. She was very sought out by her colleagues for her listening abilities and words of advice. Known for her generosity, she along with St. Frances DeSales Church, served the troops overseas with thousands of packages.
Linda was the "First Lady" of Maple Hill Baseball, President of the Miller Hose Ladies Auxiliary. She was the family's beloved "picture queen" and photographer, preserving their precious memories. Cherished by her loved ones for her immense kindness and was happiest when surrounded by her family. They will remember her for her joyful spirit and her infectious love of laughter.
Loving wife to James P. Canonica. Beloved mother of Laura Ann Getz and the late Lisa Marie Getz; sister of Michael (Patricia) Heeran, and Edward (Melanie) Heeran. In addition to her own children, she was mother to Nancy (Robert) Hanna, Kenneth (Judy) Getz, Delores (Daniel) Joy, Kimberly Canonica, Christopher Canonica, and Todd (Kim) Canonica. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren to carry on her legacy.
Along with her parents, Linda is predeceased by her first husband Lemmle J. Getz and their daughter Lisa Marie, as well as her sisters Norine (Jack) Farrell and Valerie (Richard) Fahey.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 4-7pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, Friday, at St. Mary's Church at Clinton Heights, Columbia Turnpike at 10am, all are welcome to attend. Burial will follow at New Rural Cemetery.
