It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Laura Catherine Northrop McGlynn. Laura was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend. Her greatest achievement, however, was the unwavering foundation she created as a wife and mother for 56 years.
Laura's world was vast and full of love. She embraced everyone and was loved in return by countless people.
Laura is survived by her loving husband, Wayne P McGlynn, and her children, Jeffory McGlynn, Christa McGlynn Strunk, and Cara Anne Oboyski. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Melissa King McGlynn and her sons-in-law, Bob Strunk and Christopher Oboyski. Laura's memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Morgan McGlynn, Daniel McGlynn, Elise Oboyski, Madelyn McGlynn, Hadley Oboyski, Cian Strunk, and James Paul Oboyski. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Betty Lou Northrop, and her sister, Deborah Riley. She is dearly missed and survived by her profoundly loving siblings, Kimberly Northrop and Jaimie Northrop (Terry). She was an attentive, loving and supportive aunt to sixteen nieces and nephews.
Laura was very accomplished in her pursuits and garnered much respect from her peers. In her early years, she worked at Key Bank and Albany Medical Center. Once motherhood began, Laura, an entrepreneur at heart, made jewelry and sold Avon, Tupperware, and Jafra. She was a long-standing member of the Latham Welcome Wagon, which evolved into one of her greatest friend circles, "The Bridge Group". When her children's ages allowed for it, Laura pursued a career with Shenendehowa Central School District as a supervising dispatcher of transportation overseeing 200+ drivers and staff until her retirement after 27 years to help her siblings care for her beloved parents.
Laura spent her summers with family and friend’s lakeside at Burden Lake, one of her favorite places to be.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, NY 12144. A funeral home service will follow at 1pm.
Laura's memory will forever be in our hearts and her legacy lives on through all she has touched.
With love,
