Rensselaer- Judith E. Buono age 82, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness Judy was born in Albany on March 15, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Mary Margaret (Smith) and Richard P. Hughes, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of North Greenbush before moving with her husband to Stonegate Apartments in Rensselaer just a year ago. Judy was a 1959 graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer and then went on to work at KeyBank as a clerk in Albany and retired from the NYS Legislature as a secretary and receptionist. A devoted communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church in Rensselaer, Judy was actively involved in her community. She served on the Bereavement Committee, the St. Anthony Society, and often visited sick and homebound parishioners. Judy had many passions, including reading, solving crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time at the Racino with her sons, Michael and Gregory. She was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and enjoyed watching games on TV. Judy also loved watching UConn girls' basketball games with her husband, Stephen. She treasured the company of her former high school classmates and coworkers from the NYS Legislature, often joining them for luncheons and dinners. Judy especially cherished talking on the phone with friends and enjoyed summer vacations at her family's home in Greenville, NY, where she welcomed high school friends for overnight stays. A quiet, gentle, and kind soul, she had many friends who admired her thoughtful and caring disposition. Judith's kindness and compassionate nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Beloved wife of Stephen P. Buono, Jr. Loving mother of Stephen P. Buono, III, Michael R. Buono (Heidi), and Gregory D. Buono (Lana). Special "Mema" to Daniel, Judy, Patrick (Jordan), Zachary (Chrissy), Leah and Liberty. She was predeceased by her siblings, Richard P. Hughes, Jr. and Patricia Hughes Love; and daughter in law Yun Kyong Buono (Stephen P Buono III). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Judith's healthcare providers, Dr. Rebehn, Robin, RN, Dr. Atalay, Dr. Roglieri, the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home and especially cousins, Margaret Mary Schroll and Madeline Garrigan for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Judith's family on Friday, February 7, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church, 54 Herrick Street, Rensselaer, NY 12144, from 3-6PM. A funeral mass will be offered at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rosary Altar Society or the St. Anthony Society of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church, 54 Herrick Street, Rensselaer, NY 12144
