John Craver, Sr.

Troy- John P. Craver, Sr., lovingly referred to as Moose, age 85, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Albany Medical Center. He was born in 1940 to the late William and Helen Craver in Troy, NY.

John attended Sacred Heart School in Troy and graduated from Catholic Central High School, Class of 1957. In his early career, he worked in construction with Smith and Tierney before eventually retiring from Hudson Valley Community College in 2002.

Moose had a true passion for fishing and was a die-hard Yankees and NY Giants fan. He found great joy in playing the horses, with Saratoga being a particular favorite spot. Cruising, especially in the Caribbean, was another adventure he cherished. But above all, his favorite moments were spent relaxing by the pool, surrounded by family.

John will be dearly missed by his wife, Arlene (Drobny), and his children, Donna Craver (Alicia Phelan) and John P. Craver, Jr., and his adored grandson, Ethan P. Craver. He also leaves behind his sister, Marie Kachmar of N.J., as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John is predeceased by his brother, William Craver.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 4-6pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral home service will follow at 6pm.
