Brunswick- Joan Anne (Wallace) Buell, 79, of Brunswick, NY, passed away on February 14, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, David L. Buell Sr. and by her parents, George Wallace and Rosemond (Marshall) Wallace. Joan was born in Catskill, NY. She grew up in the NY Capital Region, and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School (Class of 1960) in Albany, NY. Joan was retired from Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where she was a Benefits Specialist. Joan enjoyed quilting and created quilts for those she loved. She enjoyed gardening, and her annual trips to White Flower Farm in Morris, Connecticut, which included lunch with the girls! She also enjoyed shopping, and the annual Girls Christmas Shopping Day, which of course, included lunch! Joan loved the beach, especially the Outer Banks, and enjoyed vacationing there with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. She was an active charter member of the First Bible Baptist Church for 50 years, where she taught Sunday School, Ladies Bible Study, served as record keeper, headed up church cleaning and volunteered in many other capacities over the years. It was her joy to serve her Lord and minister to others. Joan is survived by her five children: Brenda and husband Charles Fensterer of Waterford; David (Jr.) and wife Lisa of Hancock, MA; Sandra and husband George Hadden of West Sand Lake; Mimi and husband Timothy Knibbs of Southington, CT; Susan and husband Daniel “Marty” Hurley of Brunswick; her grandchildren: Alexander Buell, Charles (Chaz), Timothy and Aaron Fensterer; David III, Ethan and Daniel Buell; Joan (Joanie), Emily and George (Georgie) Hadden; Sarah, Leah, Lydia and Timothy (Jr.) Knibbs; Eva and Cole Hurley; her great-grandchildren Mia, Giada and Valentina Buell; her sisters, Janet (Don) Olmsted and Kathy Thompson; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, NY. Masks are required, social distancing and occupancy limitation will be observed. Funeral will be 11 a.m. on February 19, 2021 at the First Bible Baptist Church, 4331 Rte. 150, West Sand Lake, NY. Those who wish may gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in Ravena, NY. We thank God for the gift of her life and the blessing of the time we spent with her. Memorial donations may be made to the First Bible Baptist Church.
