Janice Van Den Houten

September 5, 1934 — September 1, 2017

Schodack- Janice Mull Van Den Houten passed on Friday evening, Sept. 1, 2017, just 4 days shy of her 83rd birthday, Janice Mull Van Den Houten left her bed at Albany Medical Center and went to be with Jesus. Janice was born to the late Horatio (Bud) and Carrie Mull on Sept. 5, 1934 and was the wife of the late Pastor James Van Den Houten, Sr., mother of the late Randy and Danny Van Den Houten and sister of the late Richard (Dickie) Mull (Marie). She is survived by her two sons Pastor James, Jr. and Shawn, her much loved grandson, David Van Den Houten, her sisters, Valerie Mull and Susie Lawrence, her brothers, Jerry (Linda), Larry (Kathy) and Gregory Mull and her cherished nieces, Sherry, Shelly and Ashley and nephews Dickie and Ryan. Even with all of her blessings, Janice always felt that there was a piece missing from her life. After many years of searching, she discovered that the missing piece was a relationship with Jesus Christ. Once she met Jesus, she completely surrendered herself to Him and Faithfully served Him for 42 years. Janice was the "first lady", "the church mother" and the heart of Faith and Love Fellowship. She Loved each and every person in that church as if they were her very own family. She prayed for them, cried for and with them, encouraged them, loved them unconditionally and never gave up on them. She had the gift of hospitality and her heart and home were always open to whosoever wanted to come in. She loved traveling with her friends, fine dining, especially French cuisine, reading good clean books, watching old TV westerns and discussing religion and politics. Janice was quite knowledgeable about both. She stood for what was right according to God's word and never wavered. She was an amazing woman of God and her love, her example, her concern, her encouragement and her wisdom will be truly missed. Our loss is heavens gain- our promise- we will see her again. It was time for Janice to hear, "Well done, My good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord". Calling hours for Janice will be held at W. J. Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer on Friday Sept. 8, 2017 from 4-6:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at 6:30 PM. Saturday morning Sept. 9, 2017 at 10:00 all are invited to meet at the funeral home to join the funeral procession to the Schodack Landing Cemetery and then to a gathering at Faith and Love Fellowship, 166 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer NY 12144 to celebrate Janice's life. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made in honor of Janice to Faith and Love Fellowship to be used for the food pantry and other outreaches and ministries of the church.
