James H. Fordley

September 9, 1932 — February 3, 2023

Nassau- James Fordley, 90, of Nassau passed away on Feb. 3, 2023, after a long illness. He was born on September 9, 1932, to parents, Frederick Fordley and Nellie Mae Scoville. He grew up surrounded by many siblings, including his twin sister, Skipper, whom he adored until her passing.

Jim held many jobs over the years, retiring from Nelson House, where he cooked for the residents of the assisted living home. He volunteered much of his time and made many great friends. When he was done working, he would play his harmonica and mingle with the residents, often in the company of his dog, Trixie. Once retired, he spent the rest of his years talking about getting another job, window washing or cooking, often calling random ads in the newspaper.

Jim was a veteran and always has a story to tell. He often talked about his Army, Air Force and National Guard days, where he enjoyed cooking for his fellow soldiers in his 30+ year career. One of his proudest moments was hearing that his youngest grandson enlisted in the National Guard, following his footsteps.

Jim spent his time enjoying the simple things. He loved to bowl, cheat at rummy, play checkers and could often be found at a pond or lake fishing. Fishing was his favorite, and he always has an embellished big fish story. One of his favorite past times was taking long drives and getting lost while trying to find a new fishing spot, all while singing "On The Road Again." When his grandchildren were younger, he often brought them along on his adventures providing them with survival food kits, just like the soldiers had. The gum and desserts in the kits were always a hit with them.

Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Dolores, sons, Michael and Jim-Boy and son-in-law Ed. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Linda Myers, and daughter-in-law Debra (Jake) Adams. His grandchildren, along with so many others, lovingly referred to him as "Pop." Pop will be missed by Ed Myers, Jr., Kenneth (Jen) McNally, Angel (Michael) Stein, Jennifer (Joseph) Lyons, and Michael (Elizabeth) Fordley. Pop adored his 8 great grandchildren, Thomas, Lucy, Ethan, Mia, Emma, Molly, Ryan and Hailey. He always hoped to one day take all of them fishing like he did with his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humane Society. Jim was often known to bring home stray animals even though it drove his wife and daughter crazy. He loved animals and wanted to give every stray a home.

Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday at 12PM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the services from 10AM-12 PM. Spring interment will be in New Rural Cemetery, East Greenbush.
