Rensselaer- James T. Barney age 83 of Rensselaer and Bradenton, FL passed away on Tuesday Dec. 6, 2016. Jim was born in Albany and lived many years in Rensselaer before moving to Bradenton, FL. He was a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. Mr. Barney was a supervisor for the NY Telephone Company and was a US Air Force Veteran. Jim was a honorary life member of Rensselaer Council #267 KofC, E. F. Hart Hose Fire Company in Rensselaer, Manasota Lodge of Elks BPOE # 2734, Bradenton American Legion and The Loyal Order of Moose in Bradenton. Husband of Joan Ann Cook Barney and the late Gloria Fontaine Barney. Son of the late Terrance J. and Helen Hems Barney. Father of Maureen Yonkers (late Thomas), Coleen (Frederick) Hiller and Terrence (Tracy) Barney. Step-father of Joseph (Elizabeth) Cook, Judy (Gary) Conlen and Laurie Gosh. Grandfather of Frederick Hiller, Sean and Shane Barney, Cathleen (Michael) Finch, Chelsea (Duje) Jelaska, Tyler and Conor Gosh and MacKenzie Conlen. Great Grandfather of Jackson Finch. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Calling hours will be at the funeral home Sunday from 3-6 PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256.
