Albany- James “Saby” Anastasio age 75 passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was born in Albany, was raised in Rensselaer and has been a lifelong resident of the Capital District. He was a chef at various locations in Albany. Saby owned and operated a delicatessen in Rensselaer and a restaurant in Albany and Glenmont. Jim’s Café was his pride and joy. Since a young boy, Jim delivered newspapers, “sheets,” for the Times Union. He was a security guard for Secustias and was given several awards for his dedicated service. In his spare time, Saby was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, bowling but his biggest joy was giving back to the community. Son of the late Joseph and Essie Anastasio. Brother of Joseph (the late Anna) Anastasio, Frank (Dorothy) Anastasio, Annie (Vincent) Perez, Tim (Darlene) Anastasio, Thomas (Debbie) Anastasio, Beth (Steve) Sconfienza, Chuck (Jane) Hall, John Hall and the late Christopher Anastasio. Also survived by his best friend Carol Engel, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his canine companion Bebe. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Peter’s ICU. The funeral Mass will be offered in the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, Columbia Turnpike, Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, Wednesday prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 10:30AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Blessed Sacrament School 605 Central Avenue, Albany NY 12206.
