Castleton-Herbert Pillsworth, 74, of Castleton passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018. Bert was born on December 14, 1943, in Rensselaer, New York and was the youngest child of the late Thomas and Helen Pillsworth. After working nearly 30 years for the New York State Department of Public Service, Bert retired so that he could spend more time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending his summers at his camp on Burden Lake with his children and grandchildren. Bert will be remembered for many things: his ability to build and repair almost anything and assisting many family and friends with his knowledge of all things mechanical; his love of all sports, especially hockey and lacrosse; and for teaching generations of children to swim, fish, and waterski. Mostly he will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father who took care of his family with quiet strength and dignity. Bert is survived by three children, Patricia Pillsworth (Tony) of Castleton, New York, Timothy Pillsworth (Heather) of Washingtonville, New York, and Shawn Pillsworth (Brittain) of St. John's , Florida; four cherished grandchildren, Eleanor, William, Jonathan, and Rylen; his brother, Thomas Pillsworth of Loudonville; and his partner, Diane Morgan. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife of 51 years, Eileen. Calling hours will be at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home on 1700 Washington Avenue in Rensselaer on Tuesday from 4-7PM. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bert's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
