Castleton- Hendrik J.” Rik” Werkman age 67 passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 13, 2018 after a tragic accident at work. He was born in Washingtonville, NY. Rik graduated from Washingtonville High School and received his bachelor’s degree in education and foreign language from Marist College and the University of Oregon. He was a teacher at the Center for Disability Services, a tutor at the Learning Center of Albany and was a Spanish and German teacher at Albany High School. He had a love for nature, the outdoors, reading, music, geography and his dogs. Rik attended St. Mary’s Church in Nassau and was a true believer in God. He has a funny and happy personality and was known and loved for his imitations. Devoted to his loving wife Sue, he was her best friend and confidant. Married on April 19, 1986 for 32 years to Arlinesue “Sue” Kelly Werkman. Son of Rose Marie Werkman and the late Henry Werkman. Brother of Beth (Bob) Quinn and Kristine Jaroka. Step father of Rachelle Patricia Hoffman-Heffernan. Step grandfather of Michael Hoffman and Kayla Lansing. Brother-in-law of Patricia Ann Miller and Lee Miller. Also survived by his best friend Larry Hunter and several nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be offered from St. Mary’s Church, Nassau on Friday at 10:30 AM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call to the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer, Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place in Horizonview Cemetery, Castleton.
