Watervliet - Heidi L. Hoffman, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Born in Albany, Heidi was a longtime resident of Rensselaer before moving to Watervliet a few years ago.
Heidi was a graduate of Rensselaer High School, Class of 1983. She furthered her education at Hudson Valley Community College, earning a degree in Early Childhood Education. In her early years, Heidi devoted herself to homeschooling her children. Later, she worked as a medical records keeper at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, where she was a valued member of the team.
A passionate and multifaceted individual, Heidi achieved a 3rd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, reflecting her dedication and discipline. She was also an avid quilter, a lover of painting, and a lifelong learner, taking great interest in foreign languages. Music played a significant role in her life, and she was a proud "Deadhead," an avid follower of the Grateful Dead.
Heidi had a deep love for animals and cherished her pets. She was known for her culinary talents, particularly her famous sweet and sour chicken, dumplings, and kimchi, often preparing meals for family and friends.
She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Ball) Kappes and the late Richard P. Kappes, Sr. Devoted mother of Samantha (Paul Schmelz) Hoffman, Julia (Eric) Newton and Daniel (fiancé Sabrina Lasota) Hoffman. Sister of Richard P. Kappes, Jr.
A memorial service will take place at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Saturday Dec. 14th at 5:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Heidi's family prior to the service on Saturday from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
