TROY – George D. Agars, 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Van Rensselaer Manor. George was born in Troy and a longtime resident of Best Road. He was the son of Sylvester and Anna (Schwarz) Agars. George is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary E. (Colarusso) Agars, and by his children Carolyn (Anthony) D’Agostino of Clifton Park and Mark (Viara) Agars of Chino, California. He will be missed by his grandchildren Scott, Sofia and Kelly D’Agostino and Maksim and Niko Agars. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Theresa Agars, Janet (Dom) Mantello and Emily Malone along with longtime friends Anthony Bottillo and Ronald Elligott and many loving nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents, his brothers James, John, Sylvester, Robert, Alfred, and Lawrence, and his sisters Bernadine Gully, Virginia McGrath, Blanche Moore, Barbara Pisanelli and Joan McCabe. George graduated from LaSalle Institute and served in the Marine Corps. He was the owner of William Lee & Company Inc. in Troy. He was also a longtime member of St. Joseph’s parish in Rensselaer, a member of the Trojan Keglers and Empire State Capital Volkssporters. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family on Sunday, November 28 from 2pm to 5pm at W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home in Rensselaer. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 29 at 11am at St. Michael the Archangel, Troy. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be at a later date.
