Hobe Sound, FL-It is with deep sorrow that the family of Geoffrey B. Holmewood announces his passing into eternal life on November 3, 2024. Born November 4, 1940, in White Plains, NY, Geoff was the son of the late Arthur B. Holmewood and A. Eleanor Garvin.
Geoff was the beloved husband of Deborah Halacy, his wife of 36 years. He was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, NY. He received his bachelor's degree and Master of Business Administration from the University at Albany.
After graduation he went to Syracuse to work for the Thomas J. Lipton Company in marketing and sales. About a year later at the urging of his good friend and fraternity brother, Robin Burton, he applied for a teaching position at Hudson Valley Community College. As a result, he taught, for 29 years, a variety of courses ranging from Math of Finance to Marketing, to Statistics. Over the years he introduced many innovations including, having students record sales pitches for a product of their choosing that would be critiqued by the rest of the class and the first multimedia smart classroom in the SUNY system. He was nominated for the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Geoff proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1969. Both on active duty and as a reservist. Geoff was also a talented builder and constructed his home in North Greenbush with the help of equally talented friends and colleagues, especially Frank LaRose. He loved football, both playing it and watching it. Most Sundays, you could find him in front of the TV cheering on the NY Giants. Geoff loved art and visited many studios and galleries. This inspired him to turn his woodworking skills to creating wooden fish sculptures. In his retirement he loved to travel with his wife and friends. He loved parties and was a frequent host of barbeques and steak roasts. He truly enjoyed his time boating and fishing at Warner Lake with his children and grandchildren. Geoff will best be remembered for his kind heart, love of life, and his laugh. He loved to laugh. Those whose lives he touched will never forget him.
Along with his parents, Geoff is predeceased by his sister, Stephanie Holmewood Scarpelli and his aunts, Mina Neil and Adelaide Ungerland.
In addition to his wife, Geoff is survived by his sons, Kacey (Jen Coulter) and Kevin Holmewood, grandsons, Grayson and Liam Holmewood and his sister, Maureen (Don) Koabel. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
