East Greenbush- Genevieve June DeGiule, 95, of East Greenbush, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, while being in the company of loved ones.
Ginny was born in Albany, NY, on June 23, 1929. Her parents were Angelo and Maria (Bender) DeGiule of Rensselaer. She lived on East Street from her formative years to adulthood. She graduated from St. John's Academy in 1947. She along with her husband, James V. Abbott (dec'd), raised their two children one door away from her parents' home.
Genevieve lived a full rewarding life. She was beautiful, brilliant, determined, accomplished, and dynamic. Gen had a diverse and complete work career (City of Rensselaer; State of New York in a variety of positions, Town of East Greenbush - Receiver of Taxes Office).
Throughout her life, she always challenged herself; never without a job and always taking a class or two in various subjects; especially art. With gained real estate knowledge and experience as an agent and broker, she created her own successful business - GJB Realty.
Genevieve loved all types of music, jewelry, fashion, bling, sparkle, color, laughter, and fun. She danced, travelled, and created beauty with watercolors and other artistic media.
She had a beautiful smile
Genevieve is survived by her beloved daughter, Susan L. Butler (Maury Kohn); son, James B. Abbott; granddaughter Tiffany M. Butler; and great-grandson, Harley Butler. She is additionally survived by her sister-in-law, Joan DeGiule; many loving nieces and nephews, dear friends; especially Joan, Peggy, Kathy, and thoughtful neighbors like Sharon.
She was predeceased by her sisters Dora Cummings (Edward), Mary Franze (Salvator), and Louise DeGiule, her brother, Bernhardt DeGiule, and her niece, Lynn Smith.
The family is extremely grateful to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County care team, especially Grace, Nathan and Rachel and to our supportive, giving, "Church Lady" Ann Marie.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Genevieve's family from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave. Rensselaer. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, 54 Herrick Street, Rensselaer. Interment will immediately follow the mass at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery, 3rd Ave. Ext. Rensselaer.
