Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer, NY 12144 518-286-3400 Frances Mary Burns McCormick Harrison, 85, passed away September 6th, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital with her loving family at her side. Frances was born August 27th, 1932 in Albany, NY. She was predeceased by her parents Michael P. and Dorothy (Bullis) Burns, her brothers Michael J. and Robert P. Burns, and her sister Dorothy Taylor. Left to cherish her loving memory, are her children Michele McCormick (John) Hammond, Mary Erin McCormick Daoust, Edward (Kate Perkett) McCormick, Kevin (Maria) McCormick. Her nephew Dr. Timothy (Robyn) Burns and niece Patricia Ann Burns. Her grandchildren Farah (Youssef El Bakari) Khemili, Tarek (Kathy) Khemili, Kelly, Ashley and Maria McCormick; and Michael (Jennifer) Daoust. Her great grandchildren William, Joseph, Tarek, and Samantha Khemili and Evan and Brody Daoust. Her great nephews Bradley, Ryan, and Jacob, and great niece Emile Burns. Fran graduated from St. John's Academy - Rensselaer, NY and received her BA, and MA in Economics from the State University of New York Albany. She spent 19 years as a master teacher of Economics and Social Studies in the Rensselaer School System, and taught Adult Education. Fran was a Registered Investment Advisor, Financial Advisor licensed in Securities, Life, Health Insurance and Annuities as well as Alternative Investments, Pension and Profit Sharing Plans. During her financial career, she was associated with Purshe Kaplan Sterling Investments, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, First Albany Corporation, Shearson Lehman, EF Hutton, Advest, and First Investors. Fran served as a Board member of the Franciscan Heights - Rensselaer, NY and was a prior President, Financial Committee Chairman, and Board member of the Sight Conservation Society of Northeastern New York. Fran was also a past President of the Trinity Child Care Board, President of the Albany Lions Club, and Board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Fran was named to the President's Advisory Council of Rochester Funds, was a President's Club Member First Albany Corporation, and a Member of 2,000 Notable American Women. She was also a member of Who's Who - World Wide. Fran was an avid reader, freelance writer, Bridge and Mah Jongg player. She was a clay artist, fitness buff, and adventurer. She enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her family. Pembroke Pines, Florida was her winter home where she authored stories for the COOPA Newspaper, was a member of the Wild Geese Irish Club and honored as the 2016 Grand Marshall of the Century Village St. Patrick's Day parade. Fran also served as moderator for the Pembroke Pines "Let's Talk Group". She continued her professional career into her 85th year- always remaining a valued advisor to her long-held and loyal clients. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at W.J. Lyons Funeral Home 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, NY 12144 Sunday September 10th from 2pm to 5pm. Liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered Monday morning at 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist and Joseph Church, 50 Herrick St., Rensselaer, NY. Interment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rensselaer. The family wishes to thank the St. Peter's Cancer Center and Hospice Inn for their professional care and concern, especially Dr. Ronnie Luyun and Dr. Duncan Savage.
