Cohoes-Emily Teresa Ignazio passed away peacefully at the Eddy Village Green on February 28, 2021. Emily was the daughter of the late John and Teresa Podesta and the wife of the late John Ignazio. Emily was born in New York City in 1929 and married John in 1951. They lived in New York City until 1969 when they moved to Cairo in Greene County to raise their family. For a bunch of city folk, they quickly adapted to country life. She was an active member of the Italian Community Club and the Lady Elks Club of Cairo. She especially loved gardening. Emily and John would spend hours in their vegetable gardens and in autumn can their harvest. In 2007 Emily and John moved to Hawthorne Ridge in East Greenbush with their faithful feline companion Callie. Emily became an active resident of the facility, joining many clubs and volunteering for numerous activities and support duties. She was smart and funny with a dry sense of wit and never lacking close friends and people who loved being around her. She had a full life filled with great pride and love for her daughters and family and was surrounded by them as she passed. Emily left us to join her loving husband John of 58 years who passed in 2009. Emily is survived by her three daughters, Terry Buel (Ben), Janet DePeyster (Tom) and Andrea Aumand (Jerry); her two granddaughters Nicole Field (Curt) and Barbara Klob; her five great grandchildren, Jarrett, Austin, Payton, Raegan and Darian; Elena Lino, her nurse and constant companion for two years, who became part of the family. The family would like to thank the staff at Hawthorne Ridge, Eddy Village Green and Hospice for the care, their kindness and compassion for their beloved Millie. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Emily’s life will be held at a later date. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, Columbia Turnpike in Rensselaer on Wednesday, March 3rd at 9:30AM.
